Twisted Metal Review

Twisted Metal Review of the TV Show Season 1

Welcome to Gman Reviews, this is going to be a Twisted Metal review of the TV Show which is from the Peacock network and exclusively on Stan in Australia.

Premise

Now for those of you who don’t know (damn noobs!!! Only joking 😊), this series is based on a video game series that came out in the early 90s on PlayStation (yes, the very first PlayStation) which was a vehicular combat game set in a post-apocalyptic world.

The premise of the game was that you would compete in a tournament organised by the mysterious Calypso involving vehicular combat and your objective was the kill all the other drivers and the last driver standing would be granted one wish of whatever they desired.

So, the games had various stages and you basically had to kill all the drivers and advance to the last stage and beat the boss and you would win the game and find out your character’s ending.

Introduction to Twisted Metal

Okay so now that we have discussed the premise, we can discuss the actual TV show. So, as you know the story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the internet collapsed in the 90s and the world has devolved into an almost medieval society where people live in isolated communities and milkmen are responsible for transporting goods between communities.

The main protagonist of the story is John Doe, one of those milkmen who is responsible for transporting goods between communities and who is one of the more successful ones just by having done it for a long time.

The roads between these communities are filled with vultures who are the raiders of this world who have cars and guns which makes being a milkman very dangerous but who gets made an offer that if he can retrieve a package from a dangerous location, he will be able to live inside a city.

This starts out the story of John Doe, played by Anthony Mackie who plays the Falcon in the Marvel Universe and another main protagonist which is Quiet played by Stephanie Beatriz who plays as the Angry Cop in Brooklyn Nine-Nine who also plays her role quite well.

Story

The story is very interesting and without spoilers, you see various characters from the Twisted Metal series and it’s clear that this series is gearing up to be a tournament like from the games.

The story follows John Doe’s story to retrieve the package and Quiet’s story to exact revenge and it’s interesting and entertaining all throughout the story. There is no filler here as every episode is entertaining and has a story to tell.

The Twisted Metal covers topics from slavery (barely), insanity, totalitarianism and misplaced hope and does it such a way that is believable but also makes you care about all the characters you encounter in the show.

The producers and writers have really done a good job in providing interesting characters through the story but also because I feel they are trying to set it up for the second season.

Acting

The acting is good as all the characters are believable and have complexity to them so that even with the bad characters you get an understanding of why they think the way they do and why some people do what they have to do to survive.

There is some real conflict between the characters in terms of their motivations or in some cases their lack of motivation or their impulsivity.

Should you watch Twisted Metal?

I say that you should as even if you are not a fan of the video game series this is entertaining content in its purest form with epic storytelling and a world that I would love to see them flesh out the only thing I hope is that it doesn’t turn into The Walking Dead where they tell the same story repeatedly.

But for now, it’s awesome and a must-watch. I hope you enjoyed my Twisted Metal review and if you have, any thoughts, questions or constructive feedback let me know via the contact us form.
