Blooby Block Review

Blooby Block Review

Welcome to gman reviews. We will be doing a review of the game Blooby Block. I love supporting indie developers, so here we go. This is a review of the game, which releases tomorrow.

Short description of Blooby Block from the developer:

Blooby Block is a puzzle adventure game based on the classic box-pushing concept found in Sokoban games.

This game is a 3D evolution of the multi-level environment that offers new possibilities and increases the complexity of the puzzles. Also, the game has an arcade touch with enemies, traps and spells.

We can say that this game offers fresh puzzles with high complexity. Sometimes it will also be necessary to have skill and good timing.

Introduction to my Blooby Block review

Blooby Block is marketed on Steam as a “cube-pushing puzzle Game is an evolution of the classic Sokoban/box-pushing type games in a multi-level 3D.”

So basically, this game is a charming puzzle game in which you control a character called Block and complete various puzzles to save your friends. The game is available on Steam and the Android marketplace, but this is a review of the Steam version.

The control scheme is rather simplistic, what you would expect from a simple indie game, but the puzzle elements are interesting.

This game has the feel of a mobile game in that it has the aspect where you would go back and play a level to try to get the perfect score by getting all three gems for a level.

The game aims to have you get the key and exit the level to move on to the next one, but on each level, there will be three gems that you can collect to get a perfect score for a level.

Now that sounds easier than it is, as there are various mechanics to master, such as moving blocks and avoiding enemies known as the Bluebies.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Blooby Block is quite simplistic at the outset, but a lot is going on under the hood.

The first mechanic you come across blocks, and as you would expect from a cube-pushing game, there are rules on how to push cubes.

First, you can’t push a cube into another cube to move two at once; you can only push a cube in a direction without obstructions.

As a result, when you start to get to the later levels, you have to think about your moves before you do them, but luckily there’s a reset button in the UI that you can press to restart the level, which is quite handy.

The other thing that makes it interesting is that you have enemies that you have to avoid, which are the Bluebies.

Now these enemies will move a set path, and you can see what direction they move, but sometimes when you are learning, they can move unexpectedly.

On one level, there was a bluebie that had a 90s angle turn on it that activated. As soon as you went next to it, it would follow you and block the exit if you avoided it.

This was an exciting twist on the avoiding enemies mechanic, and I don’t think I have seen this kind of unexpected behaviour in another game. It was a lovely twist on the cube-pushing mechanic.

I won’t spoil how I got past it, but it was an exciting design choice on enemy pathing. As expected in these games, the game starts pretty simply as it introduces you to the mechanics, but later on, you will have fewer choices to get all three gems.

The combination of live enemies and puzzle mechanics keeps the gameplay fresh and on your toes. The game also includes spells that you can get, but these only last for the level you are in, so if they are not used, you lose them when you move on to the next level.

Graphics

This game’s graphics are outstanding, especially for an indie title. I like the design of the main character Block. The graphics and sound (which I will discuss later) give the game a very campy and relaxing feel.

Especially when you’re just sitting there and planning your initial moves

Sound

The sound, from the music to the sound effects, is incredible. The theme that plays is very relaxing, but I didn’t notice other soundtracks. That is probably because I was playing the demo, but it will be interesting to see if there are other soundtracks. If the soundtrack gets released, it is something I will buy.

This soundtrack is perfect for listening to while doing other things like house chores, and the sound effect plays into the game’s charming and relaxing aspect.

Conclusion of Blooby Block Review

This is a perfect puzzle game for what you get. The game will release with 120 levels, and if there is interest in the game, further DLC will be released to have 60 levels per DLC as well as new spells, enemies and traps. The game will be priced at USD 4.99 with a launch discount.

So support an indie developer and play the free demo to check out the game yourself. The demo has the first 20 levels.

For me to review your game, or if you have any questions, please send them to gman@gmanreviews.blog. Also, the first four people to send review suggestions will get a product key for the Android game version, which the game developer kindly gave me.
